What is the cost of a stairlift?

For a curved staircase the cost of the stairlift depends on the type of staircase your have and the total length of the staircase. The stairlift chair can be provided basic and with additional features. A straight stairlift price is mainly depending on the length only. Because the price is in Euro’s and the shipping charges changing all the time you can call us for an estimation. What is the power consumption?

The lift is using a small AC motor which is powered by 2 batteries of 12 Volt each. The power consumption is of the motor is around 250Watt. It uses the power from the batteries when it is running up or downstairs. If not in use the lift is on the charger. It is just like your hand phone. The charger is connected to a normal power socket or power outlet in the house.

Is the lift lightning proof?

When the lift is operating it is not connected to any power cord. Therefore the lift is lightning proof. If the lift is charging, then by a direct lightning hit the charger might get damaged. So for houses in prone areas an additional protector is advised. Ask our staff for one unit to be installed during the installation.

What is the maximum weight the lift can carry?

The maximum weight the lift can carry is 130kg, and that is based on continuous load. We do have heavier clients, 140kg, which are using the lift without problems.

Is my staircase strong enough?

If a grown up man can walk up the stairs then your staircase is strong enough. The rail of the stairlift is fixed on every 2 to 3 steps. The total weight of the chair with motor and rail is approximately 350kg. An average person weights 75kg. That makes a total of 425kg. That sounds like a heavy load. Because the lift is fixed over the whole staircase with a minimum of 10 legs, the weight on the staircase is only 42.5kg on each step. That is the same as 14 year old boy moving upstairs. Can the lift last long?

We have installed the first lift in 1998 in Bukit Mertajam, by Dr. Khoo, the eye specialist. It is still running fine. The oldest lift of the latest type is from 2005 and is also still running fine. When well maintained the lift can last 30 years. If you want to know more about the lifespan of a stairlift, please click here.

If you want to know more about the history of stairlifts then you can read here about the King of England who was one of the first users.

How long does the installation last?

A typical installation of a 1 floor up stairlift takes 1 working day. Provided the power supply is near the lift, and the cabling is not concealed but in a white conduit. Please click here to read more about the installation of a stairlift.

Is my staircase damaged by the lift installation?

Besides the 10 legs with 2 screws each there is no other contact with the staircase or the wall. When we need to remove the lift these holes can easily be filled up and covered again (by others) and the staircase is like before the lift was installed. How is the order process?

We define 4 steps in the order process.

The first step we need to do is to measure your staircase and calculate the length of the rail. This can also be by yourself, if needed. (Click here to start the selection of your staircase type)

Second step is to find out which special features you need, like colour, material, special park place for the chair and so on. Then we provide you with a detailed quotation.

The third step is the confirmation of the quotation, After that we will do a laser measurement of you staircase or a photo-measurement of your staircase. This info will be send to the manufacturer in The Netherlands to draw the staircase, rail and chair. This drawing will be send to you for a final check.

The fourth step is if all is ok we give the go-ahead to manufacturer. Depending on the length and number of curves the lift manufacturer takes 4 to 6 weeks to make the rail and chair. The shipment takes by air 1 week and delivery and installation 1 week also. By ship it takes typically 5 to 6 weeks longer.

Are there other cost which I need to take into account?

Our quotation is including 1 year maintenance and warranty, so for the first year you have no additional cost. After 1 year you sign up for a 2 or 4 visit per year maintenance agreement. That covers the regular maintenance cost, and gives you 50% off the spare part list price.

What is the warranty?

The warranty on the installation work is 1 month, for the product is typical 1 year.
